Captain's Mistress

Captain's MistressThis edition of Captain's Mistress, which is a part of the Cultural Classics line of historic games, is one of the finest iterations available and is perfect for gift-giving or coffee table display. Captain's Mistress is the predecessor to the perennial favorite 4-In-A-Row game that originated over 500 years ago in England. According to legend, the famous British sailor, Captain Cook, played this game with his fellow shipmates on all three of his major voayages. In fact, Cook spent so much time playing the game, it actually came to be known as the Captain's Mistress. The object of Captain's Mistress is simple, yet the strategies are limitless. Players try to line up their round (glass marbles) in a row, either horizontally, vertically or diagonally. The first player to do so, wins the game.Captain's Mistress comes housed in a period-authentic, eye-catching wooden chest with recycled glass balls, evocative of the maritime floats or buoys that were hand-blown from colorful glass by the local artisans of the 18th century. All playing pieces store inside the chest, including the wooden gangplank, which is pulled away to release the glass balls once a winner is determined. A subtle wood burn on the lid identifies this historic game and completes its remarkable look as a home decor piece, as well as a timeless game that will be passed down from generation to generation. For 2 - 4 players, age 14 and up.Contents Include: 1 solid wood box, 42 solid glass marble playing pieces, 1 wooden plank and 1 Captain's Mistress History Booklet/Rulebook.
